Of all registered vehicles, only 3% are motorcycles. 0.6% of all vehicle miles traveled in the United States are on a motorcycle. However, motorcyclists accounted for 14% of all traffic fatalities, 17% of all occupant fatalities, and 3% of all occupant injuries in 2018.
Most motorcycle crashes involve two or more vehicles, and often involve complicated liability situations. Unless presented properly, an insurance company will be quick to blame the motorcyclist.
